2003-09-28 - 10:30 p.m. as requested, a letter truly sent. << Ari, Wonderful to see you again! There is something I wanted to share with you that I scribbled on a napkin yesterday evening: Madalyn has been, since I can remember when, my partner in sin--i.e. gluttony--and somewhere between then and now we matured into tasteful, moderate eaters. Though hugely sentimental on my part I bring her and the household a treat each time I invade their couch for a night. Madalyn kindly observed as the Buckwheat Honey Cake disappeared before our eyes that I always brought something all five women liked, a rare occasion. I suspect that coming from Zingerman's it would take me more work to find something they did not agree upon than to find something the five did not. Driving home this afternoon [yesterday] I considered that short scene a testimony to the Zingerman's Mission Statement, "selling food that makes you happy... to enrich as many lives as we possibly can". Over small portions of great food, the strife between housemates melted and I felt like I was in a better world. You are in my prayers, Caitlin
