2003-07-31 - 8:49 p.m. Among a number of provocative things Jeremy has told me over the past couple of days, he quoted me a piece of advice, "Who you are in five years depends largely on who you associate yourself with and what books you read." That explains the piles of "self-help" books with piles of other genres. He's said it has proven true. I picked up one of these books, Eat That Frog! which vaugely reminded me of the title: Who Moved My Cheese? and learned a lot from skimming the first forty pages. In my new journal, since the other two are conveniently filled at the end of one phase in my life and the beginning of another, I have begun to examine and practice the characteristics of a highly effective businesswoman. As today showed, however, I do need to overcome my absentmindedness. Having long ago opted against a career as an eccentric, red-headed English professor, I have no need for absentmindedness. Andy introduced me to everyone as, "This is Caitlin, she likes guns and Winnie-The-Pooh." Like an afterthought, "She wants to be our tea specialist." I thought that kind of odd, and fought to stifle the image of a Winnie-the-Pooh holding an M1-13. By now I have lost my train of thought for something more serious and private than this, so excuse me.
